Dubai: Until a few days ago, Saaniya Chandhok was known largely in Mumbai’s social and business circles — an entrepreneur, a qualified veterinary technician, and a passionate advocate for animal welfare. That changed on Wednesday, when she became engaged to Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family. Overnight, she stepped from a relatively private life into the spotlight of one of India’s most famous sporting dynasties.

A graduate of the London School of Economics with a degree in Business Management, Chandhok has combined her academic background with her love for animals. In 2022, she launched Mr. Paws Pet Spa & Store LLP, a luxury grooming and care brand for pets in Mumbai, offering high-end wellness services that reflect her training as a certified veterinary technician from the Worldwide Veterinary Service’s ABC programme.

Family business empire

Her family background is no less prominent. She is the granddaughter of Mumbai business tycoon Ravi Ghai, whose Graviss Group operates well-known hospitality and food brands including Kwality Ice Cream, Brooklyn Creamery and the InterContinental Hotel in Mumbai. Despite those deep business roots, Chandhok has charted an independent professional course in the pet care sector, an industry seeing rapid growth in India.

That independence will now blend with the traditions of Indian cricket’s most celebrated household. The Tendulkar name is not only synonymous with sporting excellence but also with the kind of public scrutiny that few families face. Sachin Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batters in the sport’s history, has kept his family life low-key, and Arjun — a left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder — has been building his own career path in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League.

Ready to begin new innings

For Chandhok, the engagement brings both attention and opportunity. She has so far kept her social media presence minimal, posting mostly about her work and animals. Now, as part of a cricketing family whose every move attracts media interest, her profile is set to grow whether she seeks it or not.

The Tendulkars have not released an official statement on the engagement, but the news has already been widely shared across platforms, with fans curious about the new member of the family. For many, Chandhok represents a blend of modern entrepreneurship, global education, and traditional family ties — a combination well-suited to navigating life in cricket’s royal circle.

As she prepares for this next chapter, one thing is clear: the woman who built her name in the niche world of luxury pet care will now be known far beyond the grooming table — and the spotlight of India’s cricket heritage is about to shine on her.
