Dubai: Vidhu Vinod Chopra doesn't need any introduction. The popular film maker is known for his iconic Bollywood movies Munna Bhai franchise, 3 Idiots, PK and many more.

But his son Agni Chopra chose to stay away from the limelight of Bollywood and chose cricket instead.

Recently he was in the news after he was drafted by MI New York team for $50,000 to play in the Major League Cricket.

In fact, Agni was on his way to San Francisco from Mumbai when he got a message from his mom Anupama Chopra, a popular film critic, that he was picked by the team.

Early days

The 26-year-old has been passionate about the sport since he was just 6 years old. He would be a regular for practice at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.

According to MSN, to avoid being spotted by his teammates he used to tell his driver to park the car far away when going to practice.

Agni was good at his game and played for Mumbai for the Under-19 and Under-23 teams and also became the captain.

In the 2019-20 Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy, Agni scored nearly 800 runs for the Mumbai U23 team, including three centuries and a double ton.

But despite showing such good form, he was ignored for the Mumbai's Ranji team. An injury made things worse when he thought of quitting cricket.

New hope

But a call from Mizoram put passion back on track. Playing for the state he scored four centuries in his first four First-Class games and scored 939 runs and followed it up with another good show the following season.

Being an American passport holder, Agni realised it was difficult to play for Ranji Trophy and that's when he started focusing on MLC.

Being a huge Mumbai Indians fan, the call-up from the MI New York team was like a dream come true.
