Batting prodigy regrets missing double ton after scoring 52-ball century
India’s rising U19 batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has set his sights on an even bigger milestone following a breathtaking innings against England U19 in the fourth Youth ODI match.
The 14-year-old stole the spotlight with a blistering knock of 143 runs, reaching his century in just 52 balls — the fastest-ever hundred in Youth ODI history.
Batting with fearless intent and remarkable composure, Vaibhav’s innings featured 14 fours and 10 towering sixes, leaving England’s bowlers struggling for answers.
In a video shared by the BCCI on social media, the young sensation opened up about his performance and his ambitions going forward.
Drawing inspiration from senior India batter Shubman Gill, Vaibhav said: "I got a lot of inspiration from him because I watched his game. Even after scoring 100 and 200 runs, he kept playing and kept taking the team forward."
Reflecting on his dismissal, Vaibhav expressed disappointment at missing out on a double century:
"I feel bad that I got out on 143. There were still 20 overs left, and I had time. There was one shot where I didn’t give my 100%, and that’s why I got out."
Looking ahead, the youngster is aiming higher: "My next target is to score a double century in Youth ODIs. I’ll try to play all 50 overs in the next match. The more runs I score, the more it will help the team."
Vaibhav was eventually dismissed by Ben Mayes, but not before making a resounding statement. With one match left in the series, India U19 will look to cap off a dominant tour — and Vaibhav, it seems, is far from done.
