Indian batting prodigy is leading run-scorer of the series with 306 runs in four matches
India’s 14-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines again by smashing a record-breaking century on Saturday in the 4th Youth ODI against England U-19 at Worcester.
The left-handed sensation took just 52 balls to reach three figures, becoming the fastest player to score a hundred in Men’s Youth ODIs. He surpassed Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who had held the record with a 53-ball century.
Suryavanshi scored 143 off 78 balls, peppering the boundary with 13 fours and 10 sixes before being dismissed by Ben Mayes. He is now the leading run-scorer of the series, amassing 306 runs in just four matches.
This isn’t Suryavanshi’s first tryst with history. In the third Youth ODI at Northampton on Wednesday, he smashed 86 off only 31 balls, including nine sixes and six fours, at a staggering strike rate of over 277. His 20-ball half-century in that match was just shy of Rishabh Pant’s Indian Youth ODI record of 18 balls. Still, Suryavanshi’s explosive innings laid the foundation for India’s successful chase of England’s 268-run total in just 34.3 overs.
Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise began in October 2024 when he became the youngest player to score a century in international youth cricket, with a 104-run knock off 62 balls against Australia U-19 in a Youth Test in Chennai. A month later, he became the youngest-ever signing in IPL history, sparking a bidding war between the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. The Royals secured his services for ₹1.1 crore.
He made an immediate impact in the IPL 2025 season, scoring 252 runs in just seven matches. His defining moment came with a jaw-dropping 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans — the fastest by an Indian in IPL history and second-fastest overall.
In youth ODIs, Suryavanshi’s dominance continued. His 78 runs in boundaries during his 143-run knock account for over 90% of his total, a feat only surpassed by Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, and Manan Vohra among Indians. His nine sixes in one youth ODI set a new Indian record, breaking the previous joint mark held by Raj Bawa and Mandeep Singh.
With a rare blend of power, composure, and flair at such a young age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not just setting records — he’s redefining the future of Indian cricket.
