Abu Dhabi: Nearly 700 residential villas in the capital that were previously violating tenancy and partitioning regulations have now become compliant, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement sent on Sunday.

The greater rate of compliance with the laws follows the widespread implementation of the Municipality’s Tawtheeq project for tenancy contract registration.

Since 2010, the Municipality has issued more than 2,400 tickets for villas in Abu Dhabi city and its suburbs for violations, including unlicensed partitioning and overcrowding.

Ali Al Hashimi, head of Tawtheeq lease contracts at the Municipality, called upon all residents to ensure that the properties they rent are been registered under Tawtheeq System.

“The Municipality has developed and implemented plans to curb the unlicensed leasing of villas, including the issuing of educational leaflets, as well as initiatives that encourage property owners to register all units with Tawtheeq,” he added.
