Dubai: The UAE’s Hatta, a mountain enclave known for its rugged mountain peaks, lakes and wadis, is getting a new visual identity, as works are now underway to transform the site into an ultimate nature-lovers’ retreat.

UAE developer Meraas, which brought to Dubai La MerCity Walk and this new leisure destination in Al Khawaneej, announced on Sunday that it has created a unique logo to position Hatta as a national park and a major brand in the eco-tourism sector.

It bears the image of the “Samr” tree, one of the natural species native to the region and the Arabian Oryx, one of the largest desert mammals in the Arab region, as well as highlights the destination’s serene and breath-taking landscape, mountains and waterways.

Meraas is currently working on a series of projects that are geared towards boosting the local tourism industry, and visitors to the site will soon see new exciting additions, such as a multiple-room mountain lodge and a trailers hotel.

Hatta is about 134 kilometres east of Dubai. It is popular among mountain bikers, hikers, adventurers and nature-lovers.

The place is recently undergoing a transformation through the 10-year Hatta Comprehensive Development Plan announced in 2016, and among the changes that residents and tourists are going to see before the end of the year is the giant “Hatta” sign located at an elevation of around 45 metres in the Hajar Mountains.

An adventure centre and an interactive tourism information hub will also open in the area, to facilitate visitors and tour guides.

For those who want to stay longer, also opening up soon is an idyllic mountain lodge with 20 rooms that will offer “blissful” views of the surrounding landscape.

Other visitors can also opt to stay in the first-of-its kind trailers hotel, located on the banks of the Hatta dam.

According to Abdulla Al Habbai, group chairman of Meraas, the unveiling of the Hatta logo is in line with their efforts to enhance the position of the area as a leading eco-tourism destination.

“It is in accordance with the vision of our leadership not only by developing projects that are global and sustainable, but also through the implementation of a comprehensive strategy that will create a comprehensive experience while showcasing and protecting the natural environment.”
