Dubai: With a focus on family medicine and fewer prescriptions and diagnostic tests per patient, the King’s College Hospital London inaugurated its third medical facility in the UAE on Monday.

KCH has a clinic in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the new medical facility situated in Dubai Marina brings top quality British NHS standards to the UAE.

Christian Schumacher, CEO of KCH in the UAE shared the results of a one-year review carried out on the KCH clinics in UAE which clearly follow international best practices in clinical outcomes.

“Through only treating and prescribing what is scientifically necessary, we are ensuring that we are continually offering the most cost-effective and healthiest treatment options for our patients,” he said.

Another finding of the one year review showed that nearly 30 per cent of patients at KCH in the UAE are treated by a family medicine consultant rather than a specialist indicating that the concept of introducing primary care as a first line of treatment is effective.

Schuhmacher was joined by Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA); Dr Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of the Health Regulations Department at DHA, Ahmad H. Al Tayer, Chairman of KCH in UAE and Ian Smith, Chairman of King’s College Hospital London (NHS Trust) among others.

Speaking at the event Al Qutami congratulated KCH on the opening of the facility and said: “The investment in the private health sector has witnessed sustained growth and we have recently launched a health investment strategy 2017-2020, with an aim to promote Dubai as a viable and competitive hub for need-based investment in health care. The strategy aims to guide and support investors to build sustainable public-private partnership models. “

Al Qutami added “the DHA is keen to support private sector investment and such reputed centres with decades of experience and expertise in the medical sector help provide the population in Dubai with high-quality health care services.”
