Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) is providing free heart screening for women across shopping malls in Dubai, as part of its participation in the 10th regional health awareness campaign ‘Feel the Beat’.

The two-month campaign, launched by Majid Al Futtaim Group in collaboration with the American Heart Association and the Emirates Cardiac Society, from September to October, aims to spread awareness of cardiovascular disease, prevention and the importance of early detection.

The campaign will focus on women to dispel the misconception that cardiovascular disease affects more men than women, after a Nielsen study found that the top two health concerns among women in the GCC are high-cholesterol levels and being overweight. Both are risk factors for heart disease.

All participating shopping malls will host medical professionals — who will administer complimentary cardio-health screening and conduct screening for women — in allocated areas.

At each designated location, visitors will be able to check their blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI) to determine if they are at risk of heart disease and if they would require a follow-up consultation for further analysis.
