Abu Dhabi: Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala’s network of world-class health-care facilities, has officially begun its opening process, with its state-of-the-art Eye Institute now open and ready to accept and treat patients.
The hospital will begin a gradual process of opening most of its services by the end of May, with the Eye Institute officially being the first service to open for patients.
With the opening of the Eye Institute, patients will no longer have to seek treatment abroad, and will be able to visit Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi for world-class treatment. The opening of the Eye Institute will also mean that patients in the region, who sometimes travel to Europe or the US for treatment, will now have new alternatives for complex eye care in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking on the opening of the Eye Institute, Dr Marc Harrison, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said, “We are thrilled to welcome patients to our Eye Institute and are honoured to provide world-class care to our patients here in the UAE. ‘Patients First’ is our guiding philosophy and shapes the decisions we make every day. It also underpins how our measured approach to opening services at the hospital ensures high-quality care and patient safety. Over the next few weeks we’ll be announcing additional services related to digestive diseases, heart and lung conditions and much more.”
Dr Harrison also said patients at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi would receive the same high standard quality treatment as its US-based counterpart, Cleveland Clinic.
“Our mission is to also provide compassionate patient-centred care of the highest quality to the people of Abu Dhabi. Patients walking through the doors of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi are going to receive the same quality of care as they would expect to receive at Cleveland Clinic in the US, which has been tailored to local needs and culture. This will enable our patients to stay close to their families and loved ones, their strongest support system, while being treated for complex medical issues.”
When fully functional, the hospital will offer more than 30 medical and surgical specialities, with 175 physicians, and more than 1,000 nurses and allied health professionals delivering care for patients.
Speaking to Gulf News, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi officials said that its Eye Institute is open five days a week, from Sunday to Thursday, from 8am to 5pm. The Contact Centre is open Sunday to Thursday, from 7am to 7pm, and the public can call 800 8 CCAD [800 8 2223].
Among the many treatments the Eye Institute will offer are those for glaucoma, cataracts, corneal diseases, and retinal diseases related to diabetes.
At this time, certain health insurance plans will be accepted by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, with two being covered so far; Thiqa and select Daman enhanced plans.
Patients not under these insurance plans will still be able to seek treatment at the hospital through self-payment. The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi told Gulf News that they are also working with other health insurance providers to offer other options in the future.
