Dubai: The fact that 96.8 per cent of the people feel it is safe and secure to walk out at night in the UAE, has ranked the country as the world’s second safest place, officials said on Monday.
Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai, said the national agenda index in 2017, was positive in all security and safety levels which put UAE on top ranking in many security fields.
“The survey showed that 96.8 per cent of people feel safe and secure in the country. We are second after Singapore. UAE’s policies and strategies were behind the achievements to make the country one of the safest countries in the world,” Lt Gen Tamim said during a press conference with officials from Interior Ministry to reveal the result of latest survey on safety, respond time to emergencies, deaths on the roads and crime rate in the UAE.
Global Law and Order 2017 report by research firm Gallup, put Singapore on top on sense of personal security and experience with police.
Major General Dr Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Quality and Excellence, said one of the reasons for some people not to feel safe in the streets is there were no lampposts or signs in the streets to identify locations of police stations.
“Our leaders have urged us to enhance the people’s feeling of safety so the country become number one in the world in sense of safety,” Major General Al Obaidly said.
Major-General Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, said the average of response time to emergencies put UAE in second place after New York City.
“With new technologies and using Artificial Intelligence in command rooms and police patrols, the respond timing for emergencies and accidents put UAE in second place after New York,” Shaikh Al Nuaimi said.
The quick response management system (MDT) in police patrols enhance the functioning through a software that operates through iPads linked to the operations rooms. The system will provide quick information about the callers, place of emergency and movement at the emergency site. It will also function as GPS to guide the patrol to the location of the crisis at the earliest.
Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, head of Federal Traffic Council, said that road deaths index was 4.53 deaths per 100,000 people in UAE last year compared to 6.13 deaths per 100,000 people in 2016.
Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director General of the Federal Criminal Police at the Ministry of Interior, said the crime rate reduced in the UAE and the country came first in safest country related to house robberies and sexual assaults.
Fires index
Major General Jassem Mohammed Al Marzouqi, General Commander of Civil Defence at the Ministry of Interior said: “The UAE is leading the world in the best performance of fire safety based on report of International Association of Fire Services. We are ranked second in fire services after Singapore,” Maj Gen Al Marzouqi said.
