Dubai: Parents of children attending Dubai American Scientific School (DASS) reacted with shock and anger after the school was slapped with penalties by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

Emirati Umm Alyaa, who has two children studying at the school, told Gulf News she was shocked to learn about KHDA’s decision. “I have withdrawn my two children, one in KG2 and the other is in grade 2.

“I was utterly shocked when I learned about the many problems that the school has and I wish I knew before because now the school has already started and I do not know what to do with my children,” Umm Alyaa said.

“I was late in registering my children this school year and all of the schools where already full. When I went to the DASS I found it strange that I found plenty of empty seats but registered my children anyway because all the other schools where full,” she added.

Umm Alyaa has already paid Dh49,000 towards the school fees for both her children.

The school has told her that she can return in two days if she wants a refund.

Abu Nasser, also an Emirati, has withdrawn his son from KG2 after learning about the school’s violations. “I was shocked to find out about these violations and so immediately have withdrawn my son after completing only one week! When I went to the Marefah they told me that it was best to withdraw my children; however when I went to the school they told me that everything is fine and they plan on suing the authority for badmouthing their school.”

Abu Nasser was also told by the school that he could collect a refund in a day if he so desired.
