Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence rescued a worker from a sewage pit in Al Shawamikh area, on the outskirts of the capital, Abu Dhabi Police said on Sunday.
The worker, in his 40s, was seriously injured in the accident on Sunday and transferred to Al Mafraq Hospital for treatment.
The operations room in Baniyas received a call at 10:15am on Sunday alerting them of the incident and immediately directed ambulances, besides rescue and civil defence teams, to the accident scene.
Brigadier General Musallam Mohammad Al Ameri, director of the police directorate of the external areas in the criminal security sector, urged construction companies to comply with prescribed security and safety standards to reduce risk of injuries and protect workers.
He also appealed to members of the public not to wander into excavation sites and construction areas.
