Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, said on Monday that he is transferring the supervision of private schools in the emirate to a local body comprising international education experts.
Dr Shaikh Sultan made the announcement during a telephone call on the Direct Line programme, broadcast live by Sharjah Radio.
“This issue concerning the Ministry of Education caused confusion, and in Sharjah we made this decision five months ago. Currently, the emirate of Sharjah is taking the necessary measures to implement it. We are working to improve the education process in Sharjah not only in form but also in content. This body is working under my personal guidance to improve education standards, and will take care of everything going on in the classroom, such as the evaluation of teachers and teaching methods,” said Dr Shaikh Sultan.
Dr Shaikh Sultan pointed out that the authority will supervise and improve all aspects of the educational process in private schools in the emirate.
“I would like to assure the school owners and parents in Sharjah that we will take good care of your children. We have been working on this projects for the past four to five months, and the necessary steps have been taken in this regard, he added.
Dr Shaikh Sultan reassured school owners and parents that the transfer of their children from one school to another will now be dealt with by this local body that is directly under his supervision, and not through the ministry.
“I would like to tell the parents not to worry, because the emirate of Sharjah will take care of your children.”
Meanwhile, Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, said that the announcement to stop registering Emiratis in 47 underperforming private schools across the UAE will reflect positively on the education system and improve quality of education. Most of these schools are located in the Northern Emirates.
Al Hammadi said that meetings were held with the boards of private schools to clarify procedures they have to take in order to ensure the availability of spots for all students.
