Ajman: Four men have been arrested for stealing gold from a shop and fleeing with their ill-gotten gains, police said on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director of Investigation and Criminal Investigation Department of Ajman Police, said a gold shop reported it was robbed.

The owner of the shop said a group of men entered the shop, threatened him, stole some jewellery and fled.

Police searched the area looking for the robbers, but no one was found.

Subsequent field work by detectives helped track down the suspects who were found living in a deserted house in Ras Al Khaimah.

In coordination with the Ras Al Khaimah Police, a joint police team raided the house and took the suspects into custody.

Police did not elaborate whether they recovered any of the stolen gold.

The suspects, who hail from Africa, confessed to the crimes, police said.

They have been referred to the Attorney-General.

Lt Col Al Nuaimi praised the officers involved in the joint operation for conducting a successful operation leading to the arrest of the men.

He also expressed thanks and appreciation to RAK Police for their cooperation.
