Fujairah: Three men believed to be involved in an armed robbery at a money exchange office in Fujairah have been arrested, police revealed on Wednesday.

The trio, all aged in their 30s, stole various foreign and Arab currencies during their daring heist in June.

Police described the raid as well organised and carried out in a short time.

Police did not reveal the amount of money the thieves stole.

Lieutenant-Colonel Saeed Obaid Al Kindi, deputy director of Criminal and Investigation Department at Fujairah Police, said the suspects entered the exchange office and attacked its employees. The suspects also threatened them with sharp weapons before taking away cash.

Lt-Col Al Kindi said by the time the police were informed about the incident, the suspects had escaped. The employees failed to activate the alarm to alert the police.

Lt-Col Al Kindi said that police formed a special team which managed to identify the suspects and their whereabouts and raided their location.

On searching the residence, police recovered the stolen money and found sharp weapons used in the robbery.

According to police, the suspects confessed to their crime.

The case was referred to the public prosecution for further action.

Brigadier Mohammad Rashid Bin Naya Al Tunaiji, deputy chief of Fujairah Police, praised his officers for the quick arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the money.
