Abu Dhabi: A man was arrested in Abu Dhabi after he conned social media users on Snapchat through fraudulent means.
Abu Dhabi Police’s CID Department said that the suspect, an Arab man in his 30s, created fake social media accounts and posed as a woman.

Brigadier General Tariq Khalfan Al Ghoul, Deputy Director of CID at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the suspect created a fictitious Snapchat account, with a fake woman’s identity, and he lured men into securing a date for Dh500.
The suspect would then arrange a time and place to meet the victims, but when the appointment arrived, the conman never showed up.
Colonel Jumaa Al Kaabi, director of CID at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the electronic crimes department received complaints from a number of people who said they were victims of electronic fraud.
“A security plan was immediately put in place, and an order was issued by the Public Prosecution to arrest the suspect,” said Col Al Kaabi.
When the suspect was apprehended, he was found with a collection of smart phones, false names of women, indecent photographs and video clips.
