Dubai: Police in Abu Dhabi arrested two Asian men for intending to sell and distribute 172 kilograms of hashish in the UAE.

Colonel Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, Director of Abu Dhabi Police's Drug Control Department, said that the two suspects were arrested in the case known as ‘The Poisons of Darkness.’

Col Al Dhaheri said that preliminary information in the case led police to the men in Al Ain, who were trafficking drugs in the country.

Abu Dhabi Police seized 172kg of hashish in the drug bust, out of which 80kg were stored in another emirate.

At the time of the arrests, the suspects were arrested at their residence with the possession of 92kg of hashish, half a kilo of opium, and money of various currencies, including: Dh224,000, € 5,500, US$3,400, and £460.

Col Al Dhahiri stressed that Abu Dhabi Police continue its joint efforts with counterpart agencies and institutions in the fight against drugs, and that special measures are carried out to detect any attempt to trade, smuggle or promote drugs. 

Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department has also launched an active campaign on social media against drugs, and urged the public to contact Dubai Police if they suspect that any person is selling or trading in drugs.

Police also urge families to monitor their children so that they do not get into drug abuse and become addicts.
