Abu Dhabi: Various fake sports clothing items were seized on Saturday after being confiscated from three shops in Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Police have said that three store owners have been arrested for selling counterfeit sports apparel weighing about 100kg in the capital.

The police seized items including T-shirts, trousers, and a variety of shoes, all of which were marked with logos of branded companies and sold at original prices.

According to the Department of Criminal Investigation of the police, three Asian sellers have admitted their involvement in the fraud.

“We have received information and complaints about three shops making use of the false trademark of branded sports apparel companies. Following the criminal laboratory reports, the Abu Dhabi Police accelerated measures to nab the fraudsters,” said Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Burshid, Director of Criminal Investigation at Abu Dhabi Police.

The criminal laboratory reports have proved that all the confiscated items were fake.

Traders have admitted buying fake goods and convincing customers that they are from an authorised branded dealer.

The Abu Dhabi Police action aims to protect the rights of owners of original goods as well as consumers.

Col Burshid has appealed to the community to report any such cases immediately to fight counterfeit goods and protect the UAE market.

“The fraud of fake trademarks is a social and economic crime. According to the country’s law, committing such a crime can result in the closure of the shop, imprisonment, and the individual’s deportation,” Col Burshid added.
