Dubai: A Pakistani worker has gone on trial for sexually abusing a teenage girl while she was swimming with her friends and family at Jumeirah open beach, a Dubai Court of First Instance heard.

According to official records, on June 15 this year, the Sri Lankan girl, 14, was with her father and three friends on the beach at 9pm.

When she was in the water, her friend told her that the suspect was standing behind her. The girl said that the man held her from her behind and touched her breast, held her neck and put her head under the water but her father rescued her. “I saw him walking towards my daughter and then I heard her yelling. He was holding her neck. I ran and rescued her and called the police,” the father said in official records.

The defendant, 26, denied the sexual abuse charge. A verdict will be issued later this month.
