Dubai: A woman has been fined Dh10,000 for practising unlicensed medicine and using her flat as a private clinic to treat women with Botox injections for around Dh1,500.
Law enforcement officers apprehended the 32-year-old Russian woman in a sting operation inside her flat at Jumeirah Lake Towers where she was caught red handed practising unlicensed medicine and giving women Botox injections.
Dubai Police were informed by health inspectors that the 32-year-old Russian had turned her residential flat into a clinic where she treated women with Botox injections and fillers.
The authorities were informed that the Russian woman used to charge her patients between Dh1,200 and Dh1,500 for a Botox injection in November.
Records said a health inspector posed as a client and contacted the defendant, who invited her to the flat for a consultation and a treatment.
Dubai Police raided the flat once the undercover inspector [who had posed as a client wanting to have a Botox injection] signalled them to do so.
Law enforcement officers seized medical equipment and medicines in the defendant’s flat.
Prosecutors accused the 32-year-old Russian defendant of practising unlicensed medicine, possessing medical equipment in an illegal manner and endangering lives of her clients.
When she appeared before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court, the Russian woman pleaded not guilty.
She contended in the court that the seized substances did not belong to her.
A policewoman testified that she accompanied the Dubai Health Authority’s undercover inspector [who posed as a client] as part of the sting operation.
“The defendant told us during the visit that she provides Botox injections and medical consultations. Then she took us to a side room where she opened a freezer and showed us a number of injectable fillers and Botox injections … we pretended to have agreed that the inspector wanted a Botox injection. The undercover inspector lied down on a medical bed that the defendant had placed there for treating her clients … shortly before she was to inject the Botox, we stopped her and identified ourselves. She was taken into custody,” said the policewoman.
When questioned, the suspect claimed that she had graduated from a medical university in 2000.
She claimed that she came to the UAE on a visit visa and transferred it to a residency under the sponsorship of a real estate company.
She also alleged that she had practised medicine in Russia.
