Dubai: A woman employee has been cleared of conspiring with a friend and stealing her former boyfriend’s valuable wristwatch at knifepoint when they attacked him in his flat.

The Nigerian man was at his residence one morning when his British ex-girlfriend came along with her male friend to his flat at Al Barsha. The Briton and the Nigerian got into in a heated argument about their affair before the woman’s friend punched him.

The woman and her friend were reported to have ganged up against the Nigerian, assaulted him and stole his valuable wristwatch and car keys at knifepoint.

When the duo left the place, the Nigerian reported the matter to the police.

The Briton was arrested while police are still searching for her unidentified accomplice.

When she appeared in court, the Briton pleaded not guilty and contended that she went to pick up her belongings following the break-up.

On Thursday, the Dubai Court of First Instance acquitted the British woman of stealing the Nigerian’s Dh110,000 worth of wristwatch and Dh3,600 worth of mobile phone in collaboration with the fugitive suspect.

Presiding judge Urfan Omar said he was acquitting him for lack of evidence.

The Nigerian man alleged that the incident happened shortly after he broke up with the woman.

“She and a man came to my place at 7.30am. We had a heated argument and then they assaulted me … they threatened me with a knife. I got into a fight with her male companion and tried to defend myself … the man injured my cheeks and then they absconded,” he claimed to prosecutors.

The woman told prosecutors that she went to her ex-boyfriend’s flat to take her belongings when a fight happened.

She was also quoted as telling prosecutors that she took the Nigerian’s car keys and took some of her belongings from the car.

The ruling remains subject to appeal.
