Dubai: A Saudi holidaymaker has been accused of following and groping a married woman, also a Saudi, near the lift of a hotel in Dubai where they were staying.

The 24-year-old woman was said to be on a family holiday in Dubai in June.

A court on Tuesday heard that the woman, on the day of the alleged incident, went down for breakfast when she noticed the 27-year-old countryman following her and gazing at her suspiciously.

Shortly after breakfast, the woman was heading toward the lift to go up to her room when the man took her by surprise and groped her outside the elevator.

The man fled the scene as soon as the woman called for her husband.

The husband and wife reported the matter to police who later arrested the alleged groper.

The suspect failed to show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Tuesday.

Presiding judge Shaikha Hamad will sentence the suspect in absentia on October 16.

The 24-year-old Saudi wife testified to prosecutors: “I went down for breakfast at 8am. When I finished and went to the lift, the suspect came behind me and groped me … he ran away immediately after I called my husband.”
