Dubai: A worker has been accused of assaulting a sewage tanker driver and liable for his death after the latter suffered a cardiac seizure, heard a court on Sunday.

The Pakistani sewage tanker driver, who was said to be a heart patient, took his assistant to a recycling station to dispose the wastes in March.

The driver then asked his assistant to dispose the waste at the station and left, according to records After 20 minutes the driver, breathing heavily, called his assistant and asked for help. The assistant located the driver and found him to be suffering from a cardiac seizure and he called an ambulance.

The driver was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital where the efforts to revive him failed.

A police corporal who arrived at the hospital as part of routine procedures discovered that the deceased had bruises under his eyes. Primary interrogations revealed that during his 20-minute disappearance near the recycling station, he had a heated argument with a 30-year-old Pakistani worker that led to a fight.

Dubai Police’s forensic examiner confirmed that the deceased suffered a heart seizure that was triggered by a sudden mental and emotional upheaval aside from physical tension.

Prosecutors accused the 30-year-old suspect of assaulting the victim and being responsible for his death.

According to the charges, prosecutors said the suspect assaulted the deceased and caused his death without intending to do so.

The suspect failed to be present at the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Sunday. Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal will sentence the suspect in absentia on July 31.

The police corporal testified to prosecutors that when he went to the hospital he found bruises under the victim’s left and right eyes.

“When I asked the claimant [Pakistani assistant], he alleged that the victim left him disposing the wastes and went somewhere … 20 minutes later he received a call from the driver who told him that he needed his help. The assistant claimed that when he rushed to help the driver, he found him breathing heavily and leaning on a chair. Then witnesses claimed that a fight happened between the deceased and the suspect. Upon questioning the latter, he admitted that he had a heated argument with the victim that developed into a fight … however he claimed that it was a light fight,” the corporal told prosecutors.
