Dubai: A businessman has been accused of assaulting and cursing drug enforcement officers who found him drugged as he slept naked in a woman’s bed, heard a court on Sunday.

A Dutch woman resident was said to have called the police to tell them that the 37-year-old Emirati was creating trouble at her flat in Al Baraha in January.

A drug enforcement team went to the flat and when the Dutch woman led them inside, the Emirati man was seen on the bed completely naked.

When the drug enforcement officers tried to apprehend the Emirati, he resisted his arrest violently and cursed the three policemen who tried to restrain and handcuff him.

According to records, the suspect pushed and kicked the officers and cursed them as well.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of resisting arrest, assaulting and insulting policemen and consuming tramadol.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

“No I did not assault or insult them. They handcuffed me and I did not resist arrest … I could not resist them because I have a previous shoulder injury. I consumed tramadol as per a medical prescription that I obtained from a hospital in Ajman,” argued the suspect as he asked for acquittal before presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi.

An anti-narcotics police lieutenant told prosecutors: “The Dutch woman told police that the suspect had been making trouble at her flat. We raided the place and found him to be sleeping in her bed naked. He seemed under the influence of drugs … when we tried to arrest him, he refused and resisted ferociously. He pushed and kicked us. He also cursed us while doing our job … he also bounced his head to the wall and threw himself on the floor to make it look like as if we had assaulted him.”

A ruling in the case will be announced on April 22.
