Ramallah: Palestinian Police arrested on Monday several Palestinians found in possession of 1,500 ancients artifacts, including jars, pots, coins, banknotes, chains, bracelets, glass and silver artifacts and other valuable historical relics believed to date to the ancient ages in the city of Hebron in the West Bank.

The valuables were discovered after Palestinian police patrol stopped and searched a vehicle in the village of Yata near Hebron. Four suspects were arrested after police discovered the artifacts hidden under their clothes.

The suspects have been referred to the Hebron Police Station and will face investigation. A case will be referred to the Palestinian Antiques and Ruins Department.

Upon investigation, the suspects confessed that they had accomplices who kept hundreds of other artifacts in two houses, one in Hebron and the other in Yata. Police forces seized the artifacts hidden in the two houses and arrested the suspects.

The police statement said that the seized artifacts will be referred to the Palestinian Antiques and Ruins Department. The smugglers will be referred to the public prosecution for further investigation.
