84-year-old former president 'suffered minor injuries' from fall
Cairo: Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, serving a life term in jail, has suffered injuries after falling inside the bathroom of a prison near Cairo, reported the independent newspaper Al Masry Al Youm on Tuesday.
A policeman responsible for guarding Mubarak notified his seniors in Turah Prison that he had heard screams from the room where the 84-year-old former leader is kept at the prison hospital and on entering it he found Mubarak lying on the floor of the bathroom, said the paper.
The guard helped Mubarak to stand on his feet and called doctors to treat him from minor injuries, added the report.
A criminal court in June handed down a life sentence to Mubarak after convicting him of complicity in the killing of hundreds of peaceful protesters during a popular uprising that eventually toppled him in February last year.
Mubarak, an ex-air force commander, had ruled Egypt for nearly 30 years. His younger son, Jamal, kept in the same prison, has repeatedly requested his father be taken to a military or civil hospital, saying his health can deteriorate in jail.
However, a medical committee has said that Mubarak is in good health and is well cared for in the prison hospital.
