Geneva: The new coronavirus spreading in the Middle East was detected in two children of a Tunisian man who died after travelling to Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the World Health Organisation said.

The two children, a 34-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman had mild respiratory illness and did not require hospitalisation, the Geneva-based WHO said in an e-mailed statement today. Their 66-year-old father had an underlying health condition and died on May 10. While he is considered a probable case, initial laboratory tests were negative for the virus, the WHO said.

A patient in Saudi Arabia earlier reported to be infected has died, bringing the number of deaths from the outbreak to 21, the WHO said. All cases so far have been in people who lived in or travelled to the Middle East, or those who had close contact with returning travellers to the region.
