Gaza: Israel struck a facility of the Gaza Strip’s Hamas rulers overnight, the movement’s military wing said on Sunday, with the Israeli army saying it was reacting to kite-borne fire bombings.

Peaceful Palestinian protesters have adopted the tactic of flying kites with firebombs in order to set farmers’ fields on the Israeli side alight.

The smoke from the fires makes it difficult for Israeli snipers to shoot Palestinians on the other side lending them a bit more protection.

Rights groups and the United Nations have accused Israel of using excessive force on the protesters—at least 49 have been shot dead and more than 2,000 injured.

Hamas’s Ezz Al Deen Al Qassam Brigades military wing said in a statement that the strike hit a border observation post and that nobody was injured in the attack.

Israeli media have in recent days reported significant damage to farms due to kite-flown Molotov cocktails.

Demonstrators are demanding the right to return to their homes seized by Israel in 1948 when the Jewish state was created forcing thousands of Palestinians out of their homes.

No Israelis have been hurt in the weeks of protests and the military has faced international criticism for its use of live ammunition.
