A medical centre was shut down last week for failing to comply with the regulated standard for waste disposal
Sharjah: A medical centre was shut down last week for failing to comply with the regulated standard for waste disposal.
"The centre has been shut down for one month and they have been instructed to pay all fines and register with Wekaya. It will be able to re-open once all these procedures are completed," Khalifa Al Shaibani, general manager of medical waste collection company Wekaya, said.
"We are working towards a healthy and clean environment that is free from medical waste which, in turn, protects the health of workers in the medical sector as well as the community," he said.
The Sharjah Economic Development department, in cooperation with Sharjah Municipality, ordered the centre to close down for one month after it was found to have been disposing of its medical waste into aluminium containers that are used for general waste.
