One of the victims stopped to help the other, after he saw a driver attending to a flat tyre
Abu Dhabi: Two men were crushed to death as a truck rammed into them while they were changing flat tyres by the roadside, officials told Gulf News yesterday.
One of the victims stopped to help the other, after he saw a driver attending to a flat tyre.
The gruesome crash happened on Monday, close to 6pm, in Al Faya, on the Al Ain-Abu Dhabi highway, an Abu Dhabi police official said.
The victims were identified as 20-year-old Omani citizen, Rashid Mubarak, and 30-year- old Sudanese man Midhad Abdul Kareem.
"Mubarak was changing the flat tyre by the road when Abdul Kareem apparently pulled over his vehicle to help him."
"As they were attending to the tyre, a truck hit them both, killing them instantly", said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
According to Jamal Mohammad, Abdul Kareem's relative, the truck driver has been taken into police custody.
"Midhad was only trying to help someone…" he sighed.
"The truck driver is also Sudanese, and was arrested by Musaffah police", he said.
