Manama: Saudi Arabia’s education minister has warned he would take strong action against those who abused the names of Saudi universities to give away fraudulent diplomas and degrees.
Ahmad Al Eisa issued his stern warning following the proliferation of advertisements claiming they can offer diplomas from Saudi, Syrian and Egyptian universities.
The ads said the degrees included bachelors, masters and PhDs and were officially certified by embassies and educational and cultural missions.
“The ministry will look into the issue and will take the necessary measures to ensure there is no exploitation of people,” Al Eisa said in a statement carried by Saudi daily Al Watan.
King Abdul Aziz University said that it would take legal action against anyone who used its logo without its approval.
“These are bogus ads and the people who are promoting them are abroad,” Sharii Al Baqmi, the spokesperson for the university, said. “They are using the university logos for lucrative purposes and people have to be extra cautious and not deal with them in any way.”
The spokesperson stressed that the university did not provide its degree through offices.
“When a student graduates from our university, he receives a certified degree and all his details and data are well documented. He has access to them. These officers that are abusing the name of the university are not connected to us and we do not deal with them,” he said.
