Dubai: By now everyone has heard that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Dr Arif Alvi was selected as the 13th President of Pakistan. But, a new piece of information has come to light, which is starting to cause a buzz on social media.
On PTI’s official website, Alvi’s profile was posted, which states that his father, Dr Habib Al Rehman Elahi Alvi, was a dentist to Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. Alvi’s family has letters from Nehru, which he wrote to Alvi’s father at the time, in their possession.
The website goes on to state that he practiced dentistry in India and migrated to Pakistan in 1947. He then opened a dental practice in Karachi.
This fact has been picked up by many news outlets in both Pakistan and India and is now being shared by social media users on both sides of the border.
Tweep @AshishM44975962 shared one of the news reports and wrote: “Pakistan’s newly elected President Dr Arif Alvi shares an interesting connection with India as his father was a dentist to India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, according to the short biography of the president on the website of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.”
@iAamirJaved also tweeted a news report: “What’s the connection of Dr Arif Alvi with India? Hidden aspect of new Pakistan president’s life revealed. #Pakistan”
Shaikh Mukhtar Ashraf shared one of the news reports on his Facebook page and wrote: “Arif Alvi is the son of Nehru’s dentist!”
While several other links were being shared on social media platforms, Dr Alvi posted a note of thanks after he was announced as the winning candidate in Tuesday’s presidential election.
On his Facebook page, he wrote: “I am grateful to Allah for all that he has bestowed upon me. This is not my victory alone but that of the downtrodden masses of Pakistan. I thank Imran Khan as because of him we are on the brink of fulfilling our destiny. I also thank all who have congratulated me on my election.”
Numeriyah Batool responded on his Facebook post: “So proud of having you as the president of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Good luck Sir. Insha Allah, Naya Pakistan will be the best Pakistan under the supervision of you and Prime Minister Imran Khan.”
A lot of congratulatory messages have also been floating on Twitter.

@AftabSiddiqiPTI added: “I strongly believe that under his presidency, Pakistan wil continue to develop culturally, and educationaly leading to opening of new avenues in the world. #PTI”
