May 18, 2007: A bomb ripped through the Friday congregation in historic Makkah Masjid of Hyderabad killing 9 and injuring 58 others. Another five people were killed when police opened fire on a group of Muslims protesting against the blast. Investigators said a mix of RDX and TNT was used in preparing the IED which exploded, two unexploded IEDs were also recovered and feused.

May 19, 2007: Special Investigation Team constituted by the Hyderabad city police, which started making large scale arrests in the city suspecting the involvement of Muslims. 26 were charged with conspiracy but acquitted by the court.

June 9, 2007: State government hands over the case to CBI after the allegations of bias against the city police.

Dec 29, 2007: Sunil Joshi, one of the suspects of the case is shot dead by unknown assailants.

June 17, 2010: CBI arrests Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma with a claim that Hindu right wing group Abhinav Bharat was involved in the blast.

November 19, 2010: CBI announced arrest of Aseemanand.

December 18, 2010: Aseemanand gives a statement to the court confessing his involvement in the blast.

April 4, 2011: NIA takes over the case and books fresh cases. It declares two accused Ramchadnra Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange as absconder.

Feb 13, 2014: NIA files charge sheet against ten accused including Swami Aseemanand from Gujrat, a former RSS member and patron of Abhinav Bharat.

March 23, 2017: two accused Aseemanand and Mohanlal Rateshwar granted bail by the special court as NIA did not oppose it. Aseemamand released from jail on March 30

Feb 15, 2018: Lt Col Purohit, one of the accused in Malegaon blast, joins the long list of witnesses who turn hostile. Col Purohit contradicts the claim of CBI and NIA that they recorded his statement.

April 16, 2018: Special NIA court lets off the five accused as NIA failed to prove their guilt.
