Hyderabad: After a week of probe, questioning and searches, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two Hyderabad youth for suspected links with the terrorist organisation Daesh and alleged attempts to radicalise other youth.
NIA officials said 24-year-old Abdullah Basith of Babanagar and 19-year-old Abdul Qadeer of Shaheen Nagar were arrested after it was found that they were part of an ongoing conspiracy to carry out terrorist attacks in the country.
“Initial questioning has revealed the involvement of Abdullah Basith, Abdul Qadeer and other associates who had pledged their allegiance to the proscribed terrorist organisation Daesh”, NIA officials said.
While Abdul Basith was arrested earlier also when he had tried to leave the country for Syria and join Daesh.
But Abdul Qadeer’s father Abdul Quddus denied the allegations and said his son was in the business of selling religious books outside mosques in different places and he was being targeted just because he was in touch with a relative in Pakistan and was planning to visit Pakistan to attended a wedding.
Abdullah Basith’s arrest has left the neighbours in a shock, while his parents were not at their residence to react. Neighbours revealed that Basith had got married recently and his parents had hoped that this will change his mind away from the extremist tendencies.
NIA had launched the probe in Hyderabad on August 6 with searches at seven places and seizure of mobile phones and laptop. Since then the NIA was questioning 8 people from different angles. The electronic gadgets were sent to central forensic science laboratory for data extraction and to establish the communication between the local youth and the international network.
