Hyderabad: With the return of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) from three day visit to New Delhi political activity has picked up pace in the state capital.

The Telangana CM has convened an emergency meeting of his cabinet amid speculation he is planning to convene the state assembly session in the next few days to pave the way for an early state election.

The main opposition Congress party on the other hand held a high-level meeting to discuss the current political situation.

The meeting convened by the state Congress president was attended by all the senior and key party leaders, including party secretary in charge of Telangana affairs R.C. Kuntia, to review the preparedness of the party for possible early polls.

The cabinet meeting was also expected to take some key decisions as the top officials have been asked to send the proposals for the consideration by the Council of Ministers.

Soon after his return the chief minister delved into putting the finishing touches to his plans for the mammoth TRS public meeting to be held on September 2.

Sources said the chief minister would convene the Assembly session on September 4 and 5 and announce the first list of TRS candidates on September 6.

During his visit to Delhi the chief minister met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss several pending issues including the clearance for the new zonal system.

According to sources, he also sought the prime minister’s help in his efforts for an early election to the state assembly. The present term of the assembly ends on June 8 and in the normal course the elections would be held in April-May.

However KCR appears inclined to go for early elections to take advantage of the positive mood in the state following copious monsoon rains and the expected bumper harvest.

Senior minister K. Taraka Rama Rao who visited the venue of the public meeting told the media that whenever elections would be held the TRS would return to power for second term with an overwhelming majority by winning a minimum 100 seats.

“KCR will be the chief minister again”, he said.

On Parliament elections he said the TRS would bag 16 of the 17 seats. However he did not elaborate who he expected to win the remaining seat.

Meanwhile former union minister and senior Congress leader S. Jaipal Reddy said that early elections will be a good news for Congress as the people were fed up with the KCR regime and were waiting keenly for an opportunity to get rid of it.

“Instead of focusing on governance, Chief Minister was playing antics in Pragati Bahavan (official residence of CM)”, he said.

“people know what was the fate of Chandrababu Naidu when he went for early elections in 2004”, he said exuding confidence that the Congress will come to power in the next elections whenever they are held.
