Dubai: Over 100 passengers flying from Kuwait to Hyderabad had narrowly escaped a disaster after an engine of a Jazeera Airways plane caught fire on Thursday.

Flight J9 608 was landing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport when a fire was reported on the right engine of the aircraft.

The flames were quickly put out and all the 145 passengers on the Airbus A320ceo single-aisle plane were able to disembark safely, the airline confirmed in a statement sent to Gulf News.

A spokesperson for Jazeera Airways India said that there was a “brief tailpipe flare in the right engine” of the plane after landing safely at the airport at 1.29am on Thursday.

"What took place was what the airline industry commonly refers to as a tailpipe flare. Our pilot immediately followed standard operating procedure by switching off fuel and ignition.  All safety procedures were followed, and all passengers disembarked normally,” the spokesperson said.
