While the world focused on the controversial moments in the Miss Universe pageant, Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry was quietly taken to a Thai hospital after her tumble on stage. She remains in critical care.

She suffered lacerations to her chin and foot, said the official Miss Universe Jamaica organisation on social media, adding that she remains in intensive care.

On November 21, it issued a statement about her condition, admitting that ‘Gabby isn’t doing as well as we would have hoped, but the hospital continues to treat her accordingly.’ It quoted Dr. Henry-Samuels, adding: Medical personnel have further indicated that Gabrielle will be required to remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a minimum of seven (7) days, as doctors continue their close monitoring and specialised care.”

The organisation went on to speak of their pride in the contestant and called on well-wishers to keep her in their prayers.

“We also encourage friends, supporters, and well-wishers worldwide to join in lifting her in love, strength, and hope,” it said.

Calling on people to be sensitive and not spread rumours, it asked social media users to be prudent in its information sharing. “We respectfully ask the public and social media users to avoid … speculation that may cause further distress to the family,” reads the statement.

Finally, the organization added: “Our primary focus remains on Gabrielle’s recovery and the well-being of her loved ones. We kindly request continued compassion, sensitivity, and privacy as the family navigates this challenging period.”
