When you think of Monte Carlo, it's impossible not to picture the jet set rubbing shoulders at parties on their mega-yachts, casinos full of designer-clad patrons and pricey sports cars racing along the winding roads - both during the Grand Prix season and at all other times too. And Europe's glitziest country recently won even more A-list fans in Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez and Katie Cassidy, who enjoyed a whirlwind trip to Monaco, to film their new movie, the aptly titled Monte Carlo.

Nestled on the Côte d'Azur and surrounded on three sides by France, the home to the glamorous Grimaldi royal family, Monaco acted as the backdrop to the fun movie about a group of gal pals who end up there after one is mistaken for a British heiress. And if you want to follow in Selena's footsteps, stop number one is the private La Note Bleue beach.

Home to some of the richest people in the world, the principality of Monaco has long been the destination of choice for glam-hunters looking to experience a little of that 007 lifestyle, and Monte Carlo's Grand Casino has appeared in two James Bond movies, GoldenEye and Never Say Never Again.

Magnificent Monte Carlo

The town is a charming blend of chic city living and super-glam sun-kissed beaches, and is pretty small, so the best way to explore is on foot. The narrow streets and winding alleyways are home to a fascinating array of petite shops, bars and restaurants.

Make the Monte Carlo Casino, an architectural masterpiece built in 1863, a priority on your sightseeing list, along with a walk along the Grand Prix route and a visit to the Prince's Palace - built in 1215 and originally a fortress. Also make sure you check the magnificent Monaco Cathedral, the final resting place of Princess Grace, and the Old Town off your list of things to do. Oh, and sampling the local Monégasque cuisine is a must! And lastly, if there are any events on at the gorgeous Grimaldi Forum, book tickets for a very glam night out.
