Move follows recent comments made by former co-star Mawra Hocane from their big hit
Actor Harshvardhan Rane has reportedly announced his decision to exit Sanam Teri Kasam 2, citing personal and national sentiments in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
The move follows recent comments made by his former co-star Mawra Hocane regarding India’s Operation Sindoor, which Rane viewed as disrespectful to the nation.
In a social media post on Saturday, Rane clarified that while he refrained from making any personal or derogatory remarks about Hocane, her statements felt like “a personal attack”.
“Fortunately, I have the tolerance to overlook such attempts—but I have zero tolerance for any attack on my nation’s dignity,” he wrote.
Rane further elaborated on his stance, drawing a metaphor from agriculture to explain his decision.
“An Indian farmer would pluck out the unwanted weed from his crop. It’s called weeding. The farmer doesn’t need a PR team for this act. It’s called common sense,” he wrote.
The actor maintained that his decision was both personal and professional, adding, “I never mentioned her name or called her names. I intend to maintain that standard.”
Sanam Teri Kasam, released in 2016, was a romantic drama that marked the Bollywood debut of both Rane and Hocane.
The film developed a dedicated fan base over the years, making the sequel a much-anticipated project.
Mawra Hocane is yet to respond to his decision and remains one of Pakistan's biggest stars. Her hit with Rane was recently in the spotlight when it released in cinemas again.
