Filmmaker Santosh Sivan's Urumi has been selected for screening at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea on October 6.

A delighted Sivan said: "My film will be screened in the category of A Window to Asian Cinema."

His 2005 release Navarasa was also screened at the festival. Sivan, 47, has won five National Awards and 10 international awards.

Urumi, released early this year, is billed as the second most expensive Malayalam film made with a budget of about Rs200 million (Dh15.80 million) and has been dubbed in Tamil, Telugu and English.

Set in the backdrop of the fierce warrior clans of northern Kerala in the 16th century, the film focuses on the cult of Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar (Prithviraj), a man with an epic mission.

The nine-day festival will end on October 14.
