Filipino Original Pilipino Music (OPM) legend Freddie Aguilar has passed away at the age of 72.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday by Atty. George Briones, General Counsel of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), who shared the news with media outlets.

Aguilar, widely known as 'Ka Freddie,' rose to international fame with his song 'Anak,' which has been translated into numerous languages and remains one of the most iconic Filipino songs of all time.

The singer-songwriter asked for prayers in a Facebook post on May 20, but did not reveal details about his condition.

On May 24, Aguilar’s domestic partner, Jovie Gatdula Albao, posted a message on Facebook from the Philippine Heart Center:

“Stay strong, things will get better. It may be stormy now, but it can’t rain forever.”
