Krrish 3 crosses Rs1b mark

Krrish 3, starring Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan, has crossed the Rs1 billion (Dh59 million) mark in four days.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the news about the movie, which released on November 1, two days before Diwali.

“Krrish 3 hits a ton. Crosses [Rs1 billion] marks on Monday. Friday to Monday: Rs1.08 billion,” he tweeted.

He also said the Rakesh Roshan film had “shattered” the highest single day record.

Ardash said Krrish 3 created history on Monday by collecting Rs359.1 million at the box office. “The highest single day figure ever.”

Another trade pundit Komal Nahta described Krrish 3 as “Roshan’s Diwali gift to the industry”.

“Krrish 3 lights up the festival of lights. Nets Rs359.1 million on Monday, which is the highest ever single-day collection. Roshans’ Diwali gift to the industry,” Nahta tweeted.

According to sources, the movie was made on a budget of up to Rs1.5 billion. It hit about 3,500 screens and from day one has been doing well at the box office.

If it earned Rs250 million on the first day, the second day’s earning was Rs232 million and on Diwali, the earning was Rs243 million.

A third in the franchise that began with 2003 hit sci-fi movie Koi... Mil Gaya, Krrish 3 takes forward the story of the superhero Krrish.

If Krrish 2 saw Krishna defeating Siddhant Arya and saving his father Rohit, Krrish 3 sees the superhero fighting with a dark force, an evil genius called Kaal, played by Vivek Oberoi.

The movie also features Kangana Ranaut as a mutant, while Priyanka Chopra plays the female lead.
