The food blogger isn't impressed by the cottage cheese served in this posh restaurant
Dubai: Gauri Khan’s stylish Mumbai restaurant Torii is trending — but not for its culinary gems or chic interiors.
A viral video by influencer Sarthak Sachdeva has stirred the pot after he claimed the eatery served him "fake" paneer.
In his clip, Sarthak performs an iodine tincture test — often used to detect starch adulteration — on a cube of paneer from his plate at Torii.
The sample turns blackish-blue, prompting a dramatic declaration:
"Shah Rukh Khan ke restaurant mein paneer nakli tha... dekh ke hosh udd gaye."
As part of his series testing food quality at celebrity-run joints, Sarthak visited other A-list hotspots — Virat Kohli’s One8 Commune, Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian, and Bobby Deol’s Someplace Else — but the paneer there, he claims, passed the test.
Torii’s team was quick to issue a statement:
"The iodine test detects starch, not authenticity. Our dish contains soy-based elements, which explains the reaction. We stand by the purity of our paneer and the integrity of our ingredients."
Sarthak’s response? A cheeky quip in the comments: “So am I banned now? btw ur food is amazing.”
While Gauri Khan has built a reputation for designing plush spaces — from restaurants to celebrity homes — Torii has now found itself at the centre of a paneer controversy no one saw coming.
But if there’s one thing clear in this viral saga, it’s this: the internet has an appetite for drama — and dairy.
