In a fictional world inhabited by Vikings, lives a teenager named Hiccup who has to overcome several obstacles to becoming the hero that he’s destined to be.

In his pursuit to be accepted by his tribe, he captures a dragon, whom he names Toothless, and attempts to train it. They end up becoming friends. Such is the plot line of the series of children’s books, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’.

However, it seems like people may be more familiar with the animated film adaptation, as six in ten readers did not know whom the books were written by, when asked on Twitter.

When Cressida Cowell published the first book in the series in 2003, she probably might not have known that it would be picked up seven years later, and made into a feature film of the same name by DreamWorks Animation. The movie was a success and earned nearly $500 million (Dh1.84 billion) worldwide.
