Mahmood Farooqui rape case: Magistrate examined

A Delhi court on Monday recorded the statement of a magistrate and two police officers in a case filed against Bollywood film Peepli Live co-director Mahmood Farooqui, who is accused of rape.

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjiv Jain recorded the statement of a metropolitan magistrate who had recorded the statement of the victim in the case.

The magistrate testified as a prosecution witness along with two police officers, who maintained the case records.

The recording of statements from prosecution witnesses would continue on Tuesday.

The court concluded the recording of the victim’s statement on Saturday.

Delhi Police have charges Farooqui under sections dealing with rape and destruction of evidence for allegedly raping a 35-year-old American national. The victim, who is working on her PhD from Columbia University, was in India for research.

Farooqui has been in judicial custody since June 20.
