Filmmaker Kunal Kohli has expressed his disappointment with the way Indian films are promoted these days.

Kohli, who last directed the film Phir Se, tweeted on Sunday: “[What has] Film promotion come down to! Quiz on how well actors know each other? Selfies? Appearances everywhere? Silly games with co-stars or participants?”

“Rarely does one see promotion that compliments [sic] a film. All are the same with different actors selling different films, doing the same rubbish. Then we wonder films don’t open? Seriously? Since when do mall visits get you an opening? Or for that matter doing rubbish on TV shows.”

He says the actors, while engaged in film promotion, should talk about the movie, “not what your co-star thinks of you or guesses what your habits are. Who cares about that? Really wondering since when promotions became such a waste of money and that too in the wrong places. Spend wisely.”
