His latest apology, shared Tuesday on X, comes just a day after director's initial sorry

Dubai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has issued a second public apology for his remarks against the Brahmin community, admitting that his anger led him to cross a line.
His latest apology, shared Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter), comes just a day after his initial response, and reads as a more heartfelt acknowledgment of the backlash.
“In my anger, I forgot my decorum and ended up maligning an entire community,” Kashyap wrote in Hindi.
“Many from the Brahmin community have been a part of my life and still are. Today, they are hurt by me. My family is hurt. Intellectuals I deeply respect are hurt by my words.”
Kashyap clarified that his controversial comment was made in the heat of a social media exchange and wasn’t meant as a blanket attack. “I derailed my own argument with my language. I sincerely apologise to the community I unintentionally hurt. I promise to work on my anger and choose my words carefully going forward.”
The apology follows an FIR filed against Kashyap in Jaipur, based on a complaint by resident Anil Chaturvedi, who accused the filmmaker of using abusive language against Brahmins while defending Ananth Mahadevan’s upcoming film Phule. The historical drama, based on reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule, has stirred controversy over its portrayal of caste issues.
Amid the row, Chanakya Sena leader Pandit Suresh Mishra also announced a Rs 1 lakh bounty for anyone who blackens Kashyap’s face in protest.
Earlier, Kashyap had posted a more defiant note on Instagram, saying: “This is my apology—not for my post, but for the one line taken out of context and the hate it unleashed. No opinion is worth the death and rape threats my family has received. If you want an apology, here it is.”
The backlash against Kashyap continues to intensify online, with writer-lyricist Manoj Muntashir also condemning his remarks and questioning his understanding of Brahmin legacy.
