Dubai: A cleaner has been accused of secretly filming women with his phone while they were using the public toilet of at the Roads and Transport Authority’s [RTA] marine station.
A Tanzanian receptionist who worked at the station was said to have noticed a mobile phone left beside the toilet seat when she went to use the bathroom at the marine station in Al Jaddaf Area.
Once she finished using the bathroom, she recognised a phone that had been left near the toilet seat, according to records, and thought that somebody had forgotten it.
As she was checking the phone, the Tanzanian receptionist deleted the content once she realised that the camera mode had been left on.
The woman took the device and handed it over to a security guard, who instantly recognised that the phone belonged to a 27-year-old Indian cleaner.
Prosecutors accused the Indian suspect of secretly filming, using his phone, an unidentified number of women undress as they used the washroom.
Records did not mention how or when the police apprehended the suspect.
The suspect pleaded not guilty when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.
“I did not film women but I forgot my mobile in the washroom after I had tidied it up,” he contended before presiding judge Mohammad Jamal.
The Tanzanian woman testified: “At 9am I went to use the toilet and spotted the phone. At first, I thought someone had forgotten it. When I checked the device, I realised that it had been left on the camera mode on. I deleted the content and then handed over the phone to the security guard.”
The suspect was cited as admitting to prosecutors that he left his phone in the washroom to film women undress while using the bathroom.
A ruling will be heard on November 13.
