Abu Dhabi: Yas Waterworld, Abu Dhabi’s new water park on Yas Island, is now open to the public.

The water park, which was scheduled to officially open its doors on Thursday, was opened on January 20 instead, the management announced on its Facebook page.

“We had such an exciting day yesterday [January 19] at the Grand Opening that we just couldn’t wait until Thursday to open,” they wrote on their Facebook page. “Today January 20th we officially open our doors to welcome everyone!”

Yas Waterworld, developed by Aldar Properties and operated by Farah Leisure Management, also the operators of Ferrari World, is a Dh900 million investment that offers some of the fastest and longest waterslides in the world.

Tickets are Dh225 per adult (those taller than 1.1 metres) and Dh185 per child (those below 1.1 metres), and that’s excluding towel and locker rental. Children under the age of three enter free. Those who don’t want to wait in long queues can purchase a premium pass, which is Dh325 per adult and Dh265 per child. The water park is also offering a Dh650 pass per adult for unlimited access all year round. A Dh995 ticket is also on sale for unlimited access to both Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World.

Visitor expectations

Gulf News spoke with the park’s general manager Mike Oswald last week who said that they’re expecting around 4,000 guests on opening day. However, these numbers may have been lower than expected due to the change of official opening date and the current cold weather.

The water park has a total of 43 rides, slides and attractions and can welcome up to 6,000 people at a time.

“It’s still winter, so we expect to start at a reasonable pace, but by the time it’s summer and kids get out of school we expect a massive amount of people to come to the park,” he said.

Oswald also said that there are plans to develop phase two of the project over an area of two hectares next year. The park which currently sits on an area of 15 hectares is open daily from 10am-6pm.
