UAE market not yet affected by US Toyota recall, Al Futtaim says

Dubai: Toyota's massive safety recall in the United States due to faulty accelerator pedals has not affected the UAE market so far.

Al Futtaim Group, the Toyota distributor in the UAE, is currently investigating the situation with the corporation to find out if any of the vehicles in the UAE market are affected.

"We are closely monitoring the situation in the US. As of today we have no information that this affects any Toyota vehicles sold in the UAE. If it becomes apparent that any vehicles in the UAE are affected by this campaign, we will take the appropriate action," said Simon Frith, Managing Director at Al Futtaim Motors, yesterday in a statement in response to the Toyota actions in the US.

Last week, Toyota announced it would recall 2.3 million vehicles in the United States to fix the potentially faulty accelerator pedals.

Sales of eight models will be suspended subject to the recall. The company is also considering whether it needs to issue a recall in Europe, where two million cars might be affected.
